BIO

I'm Julie - an artist, story-teller through art, with a deep love for familiarity, memory, and place.

My main medium is waterolour, but I often explore mixed media and printmaking, and I'm curious about how these worlds can meet and evolve. I'm especially drawn to architecture - not just the grand or the picturesque, but the forgotten corners too: mossy walls, derelict buildings, shopfronts with peeling paint and stories in the details. I also love still life, interiors, seascapes, landscapes and will be exploring subjective art and printmaking in due course.

I trained as a graphic artist in the late '80s and early '90s, and after living a short time in France and freelancing in London, I moved into marketing, advertising, and later project coordination. Travel and marriage eventually led me to Albania, before settling back in the UK.

Art has always remained at the heart of things - passed down through my grandfather, an artist who taught me to draw by post from his home in Sussex. He came from French Huguenot lineage, and creativity has run through our family for generations.

Now based on the Isle of Wight, an island off the South coast, UK, after twenty years on mainland Kent coastline. Married, raising two gorgeous boys, studying for a Fine Art degree and running my own artistic business!

I exhibit regularly in Ventnor, IoW and Dover, Kent and have taken part in  a number of exhibitions in the USA recently. I'm especially passionate about art within the community - something that lifts, connects, and creates space for wellbeing and shared expression.

My own inspiration comes from watching the world around me; an inexhaustible supply of cliffs, little fishing boats, patchworked fields, footpaths etched through farmlands and hedgerows....gateways into other hidden lives. Rock pools and beaches, bustling towns, grand houses with Victorian wrought ironwork, rows of terraced cottages with clustered chimney pots and little back yards, loved homes and shop interiors, garish yet gloriously British seaside cafes, traditional pubs, retro rides, derelict spaces and forgotten places...from a winding alleyway to a dusty mantlepiece holding trinkets and memories... all unique to the places we know and love.
