about

I’m Julie - an artist exploring lived space through painting. My work centres on houses, interiors and environments shaped by human presence. Places where memory, history and identity quietly embed themselves in walls, objects and landscape.

Working primarily in watercolour, alongside mixed media and printmaking, I’m drawn not only to the grand or picturesque, but to the intimate and overlooked: worn staircases, shopfronts with peeling paint, moss-covered walls, domestic rooms layered with story. Whether painting a community art environment, a heritage interior or a still life on a mantlepiece, I’m interested in how people imprint themselves onto the spaces they inhabit.

Art has been part of my life from the beginning. My grandfather, an artist based in Sussex, taught me to draw by post when I was young, nurturing both skill and curiosity from afar. Creativity runs through our family, and that early encouragement instilled in me a belief in art as something deeply personal yet quietly powerful.

After training as a graphic artist in the late 1980s, I spent many years working in design, marketing and project coordination before returning fully to fine art. Travel and time spent living abroad have shaped my perspective, but place has always remained central to my work.

Now based on the Isle of Wight and studying for a Fine Art degree, I continue to develop a body of work exploring domestic space as cultural narrative - from intimate interiors to larger architectural environments.

Alongside my studio practice, I exhibit in the UK and internationally, and I remain committed to art within the community - work that connects people to place and shared experience.
