'Streets of London' - Mayfair Exhibition - Mon 20th - Sat 25th April 2026 (12-6pm)

This week I’m showing two works as part of Streets of London: Paper Works at 54 The Gallery in Mayfair.

Both pieces are based on time spent sketching and observing in East London, and reflect an ongoing interest in the traces people leave behind in the built environment.

Ghostsigns, Hackney - “Costumes To Measure” looks at a fading sign on Ravensdale Road, Stamford Hill - a fragment of a past trade still visible on the brickwork. Once functional and bold, the lettering now sits quietly above the street, holding onto a different version of the area.

Palimpsest, Spitalfields - “French Milliner” focuses on 42 Brushfield Street, where layers of signage and surface reveal a longer history beneath the present façade. The idea of a “palimpsest” - something written, erased and rewritten over time - felt particularly fitting here.

Both works are developed from on-site sketches and photographs, using watercolour, ink and mixed media to build up layers of detail and atmosphere. I’m increasingly drawn to these kinds of spaces - places that feel grounded, familiar, and quietly hold the memory of those who have passed through them.

The exhibition runs this week in Mayfair and brings together a range of responses to London through works on paper.
